BACHMANN EFE MODEL ANNOUNCED Bachmann have announced another Bachmann exclusive EFE model, click on the links below to view photographs of the model courtesy of EFE: 38118 Bristol VRT - Eastern
National The Bachmann website gives the following information regarding the model: "Our latest EFE item, E38118 Bristol VRT - Eastern National, depicts a well-known Express Bus Service to London. E38118 is priced at an RRP of £32.75. Our model depicts SMS 31H, which operated out of the Wood Green (WG) garage and ran on fleet number 3005. This vehicle is shown operating on the popular limited stop route 400, which ran between the Essex seaside town of Southend and London Victoria. There was a mixed reception to the rear-engined Bristol VRT when it was first introduced. Midland Scottish had purchased a number of the early vehicles but found them troublesome. They returned these buses to Bristol for improvements but they were still not impressed with performance, so in 1971 they arranged to swap 15 of these 'troublesome' VRT's, with Eastern National for a similar quantity of Lodekkas. Once in service at their new Essex home, they became reliable and popular vehicles. Many of them were to retain the blue and cream colours of Midland Alexander, which made them a distinctive and attractive addition to the Eastern National fleet. The plain white panels on the vehicle are due to a peculiar feature of Scottish fleets at this time. Where adverts could be featured they instead carried body colour cream blocks, perhaps with the intentions of putting adverts over them at a future date, though they seldom ran with any advertising displayed. When the VRT's moved to Eastern National this quirk was carried over and the new operator also chose to run them without adverts". EFE MODELS SCHEDULED FOR

PRESS AND MEDIA RELEASE FOR THE LONDON BUS PRESERVATION TRUST LTD TRANSPORTFEST EVENT AT BROOKLANDS ON SUNDAY 19TH OCTOBER 2014
The London Bus Museum’s close of season event, Transportfest, is on Sunday 19th October between the hours of 10.00am and 5.00pm. The theme this year is World War 1 and we will be having an unprecedented line up of period vehicles in the Paddock outside the Brooklands Club House. In addition to the Chocolate Express(1924), S464 and the Tilling Stevens(1922), along with our own D142(1925), we are delighted to have joining us from the London Transport Museum their Battlebus from 1910 and used in the 1914-18 War. The appearance of this bus will really help in reminding us of the anniversary we are commemorating this year. On August 3rd in the London Bus Museum, the commemorative plaques of those who worked for AEC and who died in two World Wars were dedicated and now form part of our permanent display. In addition to the Museum displays in Cobham Hall, we will be running our horse bus rides (additional charge), with other attractions including a jazz band, Punch and Judy shows and a roundabout for our younger visitors, rides on vintage, classic and modern buses and of course the many stallholders who also attend this event. Catering for all tastes is also available on site. Engineering works that weekend means that there are no train services to Weybridge, so our 462 bus service will meet the railway replacement buses at Weybridge Station and in addition we will be running extra services in the morning and late afternoon to and from Leatherhead Station, the nearest operating rail station to Brooklands. And as we near the end of the Year of the Bus and RT75 and RM60, our own RT1 will be making an excursion out in the afternoon for which there will be an additional charge for those who wish to travel on this iconic vehicle. Further details are available on www.londonbusmuseum.com where you will find details of the entry charges to the Brooklands site. We look forward to seeing you at our event with so many important historic events to remember. Simon Douglas Lane, Event Organiser. CLICK HERE to view a copy of the Show flyer. Please note this is a large file of approximately 500KB so may take sometime to download depending on the speed of your connection. Monday 6th October 2014 |
