A POSSIBILITY FOR A NEW BUS RELATED MODEL FROM OXFORD DIECAST
Many thanks to Archie McVean  for pointing out that in Oxford Diecast's October 2011 to January 2012 catalogue that he obtained from his local model shop there is a Scammell Pioneer recovery tractor listed. A future bus related model? I will let you know if I hear more.

NEW RESIN MODEL ANNOUNCED BY TTC DIECAST
Many thanks to John Bennett for pointing out that an advert for TTC Diecast in the latest edition of Buses magazine shows a new casting of an Alexander PS in Stagecoach livery. TTC Diecast's Resin Models page CLICK HERE shows a photograph of P319 EFL which also appears on the Showbus Website CLICK HERE and is accompanied by the following caption.  "The Alexander PS bodied Volvo B10M soon became a Stagecoach standard. This one was new to Cambus as 319 (P319EFL) but is seen here in 2002 having passed to Cheltenham & District". I assume therefore that the model will be a Stagecoach Cheltenham and District model but will seek clarification from TTC Diecast. Their website shows that they are on holiday until 5th November so there may be a delay in obtaining an answer.

CORGI RELEASE UPDATE
Corgi have released the below news update to the Trade:

There have been a number of queries and questions relating to our release schedule of Corgi products. Whilst we strive to hit our published launch dates, you will all be aware that our brand has undergone a number of changes this year. We can already see the benefits that this will bring for the long term however due to a range of issues we have had to reorganise our release schedule.

The detail of this is below:

  • We publish the full picture to you as opposed to repeatedly updating individual item changes.

  • We recognise we have a very loyal consumer, and customer base that rely on our product line for their collections or trade.

  • We are looking at ways to bring these dates forward and we will update individual positive movements as soon as we receive them.

The attached list documents every product that has been announced but has yet to be delivered as of November 2011.

Over the coming months we will update this list if there are any changes on a monthly basis to ensure that we are supplying you with our latest information.

PRESS RELEASE FROM CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD LTD
The following press release has been received from CMNL:

CMNL UK Release Update

Details of production

CMNL has now released its ALX400 model UKBUS1049 in the livery of Stagecoach Manchester MagicBus and, by the time this appears in print, the models should be available at UK retailers.

The next model that should be available during October is the 2011 Lathalmond model UKBUS0037 in the Tayway livery of Stagecoach Strathtay.

During September 6 different models have been released in pre-production form for approval by operators. This represents an equal number to those made available in the previous 8 months of 2011.

Factory staff shortages

The factories used by CMNL are still facing the dual problems of having many orders awaiting completion and a backlog of orders combined with a difficulty of recruiting sufficient workers meeting the skill standards required to assemble the many small parts of the models.

It is likely to be late in November before a clearer picture of the release order and possible dates for final production can be provided for the many models that have been approved for production, with the exception of the three that are expected for production during December.

Models with expected December release dates

Details of three models that are expected to be completed in December are as follows :

UKBUS1053 is an ALX400 in the attractive blue and silver livery of Ensignbus. This will feature bus number 103 (V479 KJN) and the model will carry destination Belhus Lakeside via Grays Bus Station on service 22.

Both UKBUS9009 and UKBUS9010 are Scania OmniCity double-deckers. UKBUS9009 is a single door version working in the National Express West Midlands fleet and the replica will portray the blue, red and white livery. The model will represent fleet number 4780 (BU08 EHZ) on route 115 to Sutton Coldfield via Walmley.

UKBUS9010 is a dual-door model which will carry Stagecoach London colour with special ‘Scania 100 Years’ special decorations. The all-red London bus model will represent fleet number 15174 (LX10 AUJ) on route 48 to London Bridge.

ATLAS EDITIONS GERMAN BUSES COLLECTION - LONDON TRANSPORT RTW
Further to my news of 6 September, I am grateful to David Cole for sending me further photographs of the Atlas Editions Berman bus series London Transport RTW. It is not know who produced these models for Atlas and it appears to be a larger scale (1/72nd). David describes the models as "overall a good model and I like the slightly larger scale, it feels so much chunkier. Main issue with it is the distortion at each end where the decks are joined - more visible in the front/rear pictures than on the actual model" I am aware that people have approached Atlas UK asking to purchase this model but Atlas will not sell it in the British market.

EFE SUBSCRIBER NEWSLETTER
The latest EFE Subscriber Newsletter arrived today and has a number of articles of interest:

Costs of production
When talking with model collectors I am often asked questions about the mould tooling, the materials used in making our models and how the decoration is achieved. With the current situation of the World economy and the pressures on manufacturing and market sales it might be of interest for subscribers to know some of the ways we are affected. Advances in Computer Aided Design and manufacturing over the past years has slightly reduced lead times but hardly affected the mould tooling costs. To reduce tooling costs some model companies have come away from die cast and are producing models in plastic and resin and although this reduces tooling costs it creates its own problems and time will tell if these are as collectable.

Manufacturers in China are under pressure implementing statutory welfare reforms, significantly reducing the workforce, and closing many factories resulting in a lack of manufacturing capacity, which has pushed prices up. On top of this the Pound has lost over a third of its value against the Hong Kong Dollar. At home, the pressure on personal finances has reduced model sales causing us to make smaller quantities and this seriously affects the unit cost. If for instance the cost of artworks, print plates and mask spray plates is £2500 and we make 2500 models it adds £1 to the manufacturing cost of each model if however we only make 1000 models it adds f2.50. To make our models of interest to the widest audience we like to include models of some small local and municipal operators, which obviously have less general appeal and if we make only 600 pieces then it could add over £4 to the cost of each model. In this environment it is not surprising that all companies are struggling to maintain product prices against spiralling costs and supply issues.

New Tooling Update
The Flat Fronted Bristol VRI and VRII tooling is now complete and being polished ready for first shots. I am hoping that sample shots will arrive in time to be shown at LT’s Acton weekend along with some shots of the Y Type modifications.

Public Events
As the year moves on, the next event that we will be attending is the Open Weekend at London Transport’s Acton Depot on 8th and 9th of October. Brenda and I will be there on both days with a display of new and forthcoming model samples and a small scrap yard of models for each day.

Subscriber offer models
EFE have now confirmed details for the two Subscriber Offer models mention in last months Subscriber Newsletter. Exact quantities are not given but quantities are described as small. I have not yet received the official media photographs so am publishing scanned images from the Newsletter:
