PRESS RELEASE FOR THE LONDON BUS MUSEUM'S SPRING GATHERING 2017
The following press release has been received from The London Bus Museum:

The London Bus Museum presents the largest collection of working historic London buses in the world. Situated for the past five years on the Brooklands Museum site in Weybridge, the LBM is actually 50 years young and offers much more than a display of old buses for enthusiasts; its aim is to present the unique engineering heritage of the vehicle collection in its historic, social, technological and educational background.

We are an Accredited Museum and are open for viewing seven days a week, providing the opportunity to see our vehicles and artefacts in a light, airy and modern environment.

The majority of our fleet run regularly throughout the year but particularly in evidence on three of our major public events, the next of which is our Spring Gathering held on Sunday 9th April with a sub-title of “Pay As You Board”, highlighting the now universal form of fare collection on public transport in Britain. But the notion of “PAYB” goes back many decades.

Spring Gathering is the London Bus Museum’s biggest event and is for the enthusiast and family alike. For the enthusiasts there will be a large display of visiting buses of all shapes and sizes alongside our own fleet, some of course being “PAYB” as well as four off-site bus excursions on heritage vehicles.

Workshop Tours will show offer greater understanding of the preservation work carried out by our team of volunteer engineers and there will be plenty of staff around to ask questions.

Our curators will also be on hand to answer questions in our exhibition of “PAYB” memorabilia and artefacts based on our extensive archive collection. The Traders’ Market Place however provides an opportunity for the collector to stock up on models, books, DVDs and other bus mementoes.

For the family there are the bus excursions and two free circular service routes to ride, a treasure hunt, children’s activities beside the exhibition, a stilt walker, balloon modeller and even a traditional “Punch and Judy” puppet show.

For the hungry there will be a barbecue, hog roast, coffee stand, ice cream parlour as well as the permanent restaurant.

Entry to our Spring Gathering costs £13.00 for adults, £7.00 for children, £11.00 for seniors and students, £34.00 for families and £2.00 for LBM and BMT members and offers free entry to most of the Brooklands Museum attractions.

We will run two bus services for those attending Spring Gathering. Bus 462 will run regularly between Weybridge Railway Station and Brooklands and bus 110 will link our free “Park and Ride” facility and the museum site.

PRESS RELEASE FROM BACHMANN REGARDING EFE COLLECTORS CLUB
The following press release has been received today from Bachmann:

Former EFE Collectors Club

"At the 85th Anniversary to celebrate the opening of Victoria Coach Station on 10th March 1932, EFE attended its first event since being acquired by Bachmann Europe Plc last October.

The opportunity was taken to incorporate the former EFE Collectors Association into the Bachmann equivalent. The Bachmann Collectors Club has been serving railway modellers since 1997 and now caters for EFE collectors too.

Each issue of the 64 page Bachmann Times magazine, which is published quarterly, will include details of forthcoming EFE models on its road works page.

Bachmann Collectors Club Manager Richard Proudman said “unfortunately when we took over EFE, we did not gain access to the database of EFE subscribers so we were unable to contact them. To thank EFE subscribers for their loyalty to the brand, members can join the Bachmann Collectors Club for a £9 discount on sending in their old EFE membership card in exchange for a new Bachmann one”.

Membership of the Bachmann Collectors Club normally costs £29 but EFE subscribers can enjoy a special introductory discount, making membership just £20 on receipt of an EFE membership card. In addition to receiving four issues of Bachmann Times, they will receive a calendar in December, a personalised membership card, the annual club badge and the chance to take part in the Members Day which is held at a heritage railway. On joining the BCC, former EFE subscribers will be able to choose a free gift from a selection of twelve EFE models.

Richard continued “we have already attracted a number of former EFE club members into the Bachmann Collectors Club and we look forward to welcoming many more through this exciting offer. In addition, new EFE collectors can join the Bachmann Collectors Club for the standard fee of £29 and can also claim a free EFE model upon application”.

To join the Bachmann Collectors Club former EFE subscribers should contact the club office on 01455 841756 or download the application form via www.bachmann-collectorsclub.co.uk/membership. To take advantage of the introductory offer it will be necessary for EFE membership cards to be sent with your membership application.

At present we do not have the facility for online applications to the Bachmann Collectors Club as an EFE member. This offer is currently only available to UK applicants".

PRESS RELEASE FROM NORTHCORD MODEL COMPANY
The following press release has been received a few minutes ago from the Northcord Model Company:

NEW CASTING

UKBUS6500 ADL Enviro400 MMC / Enviro400H City

Northcord Model Company is now pleased to announce that the company has successfully concluded its year-long negotiations with Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) and has been authorised to model the brand new Enviro400 MMC and Enviro400H City.

Northcord Model Company, commonly abbreviated to “Northcord” (representing parent company Northcord International Limited), arose from Creative Master Northcord Limited (CMNL) which was a joint venture company between Creative Master Limited and Northcord International Limited. Since CMNL ceased the business in January 2012, Northcord Model Company picked up the bus model-making business and owns all of the castings that CMNL developed since 2000.

Creative Master Northcord Limited (CMNL) had developed ADL Enviro400 models (UKBUS6000 series) since August 2006. Since then more than 50,000 units of UKBUS6000 bus models have been produced. All UKBUS6000 series models have gained excellent success and reputation worldwide, and especially in both the Hong Kong and UK markets.

The first production model of the brand new casting will be available in the United Kingdom by the end of the fourth quarter in 2017. As the Enviro400 MMC bus is developed from the former Enviro400 series, Northcord Model Company will put the new products into a new series categorised UKBUS6500 et seq, as a continuation from the current UKBUS6000 model range. The collectors will therefore recognise these models as the follow up version within the ADL Enviro400 double deck bus range.

The newly developed comprehensive casting will include the following versions of Britain’s best-selling double-deck buses:

1. 10.3 metre 1 & 2 door Enviro400 MMC and Enviro400H MMC
2. 10.3 metre 1 & 2 door Enviro400 City and Enviro400H City
3. 10.9 metre 1 door Enviro400 MMC

Northcord Model Company will make an announcement in detail about planned liveries and model dimensions nearer to its launch date.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF OXFORD DIECAST MODELS FROM THE NUREMBURG TOY FAIR
Many thanks to David Cole for sending me a number of photographs of pre-production sample models on display on the Oxford Diecast stand at Nuremburg. Included are two models which I have not previously reported. David tells me "I caught up with most of the model bus manufacturers present. Had a similar discussion to that in your report with Bachmann/Pocketbond/EFE. There were only the advised models on display. Hornby/Corgi had just the decorated samples of the two buses already announced plus the revised ‘souvenir’ New Routemaster and Routemaster. So it was down to Oxford for some new product, although unfortunately the pre-production sample of the Saro Tiger Cub had not made it to Nuremberg". BUSES MAGAZINE ARTICLE ABOUT EFE
My Subscriber copy of the March edition of Buses magazine arrived earlier this morning. They feature a 3 page article about EFE/Bachmann.

Included in the article are brief histories of Bachmann and EFE.  Mention that Bachmann's models are produced in the Chinese city  of Dongguan, but because the factory is at full capacity, EFE models will continue to be made in the factory used by EFE. Confirmation of something I reported sometime ago, that because Bachmann did not acquire Gilbow's printing equipment, all future models will have advertisements, destinations, fleet numbers and registrations applied at the factory i.e. in China. Importantly for many collectors, they state that "there will only be one version of each model".

The article also mentions the two models released during January (previously reported in this site) and says "these models mark the end of one aspect of Gilbow practice, as the Renown is the last model to be re-released with new printed transfers".

No mention is made of what new models will be released after the 8 already announced models, although the article speculates that they will come from the existing range, I assume no new castings at this time. It goes on to mention that new castings can take a year to get the models onto the market.

As I previously reported, mention is made that EFE models will now only be available from Bachmann suppliers with what it terms "bricks and mortar shops".  The rationale is that it supports the small retailer who has to pay business rates etc. In terms of numbers of retailers, Bachmann started the year with "580 dealers, 500 of who have total access to all Bachmann products including EFE". Bachmann says "that is around 300 more retailers than EFE had on its own".

Finally Bachmann intends to read the market to understand which models will have the most appeal and will draw on the knowledge of their dealers and bus enthusiasts in its existing staff. They will also welcome suggestions from enthusiasts. Bachmann is also looking at how they can expand their existing Collectors club to include model buses as they did not inherit any database from the Gilbow's collectors club.

All in all a very interesting read. As they Subscriber editions have now arrived the March edition of Buses magazine should be in the newsagents any day so you can read the article in full.

NEW ADDITION TO MY COLLECTION
I was very pleased to pick up an excellent bargain recently from Hattons when I bought brand new, the EFE model bus that was part of Bachmann Railway set 30-525

HONG KONG COMMISSIONED N-GAUGE NEW ROUTEMASTER'S
Further to my recent news regarding the release of the two models and the high postage being charged by one retailer, I am grateful to Andrew Webb writing to let me know he has been able to source the models at HMV Hong Kong for a significantly smaller postage charge. Andrew explains the by selecting the combined shipment option when paying, he found the postage charge was approximately £9.00 in total.

The HMV website can be found at www.hmv.com.hk I have just checked availability by searching for "TEZUKA OSAMU" and both models are shown as available at HK$129 (approx £12.00-13.00 each).

Please note: I am not recommending the services of HMV, and you must be aware of potential customs charges.

OXFORD DIECAST HONG KONG COMMISSIONED NEW ROUTEMASTERS - PHOTOGRAPHS
Further to my news of 30th January, I am grateful to Doug Stirling-Stewart for sending me photographs of the two Oxford Diecast commissioned New Routemasters. At this time I am not sure which Oxford stock code relates to which bus as the box does not have an Oxford stock code printed on it so I have referred to the models as red and yellow. Doug confirmed to me that Hung Hing Toys wanted HK$350 (approx £35) to post the models to the UK on top of the purchase cost. The front of the models boxes state that 1000 of each model have been produced.

TWO OXFORD DIECAST N-GAUGE COMMISSIONED NEW ROUTEMASTER'S ON SALE IN HONG KONG
Over the weekend, I became aware that two Oxford Diecast n-gauge New Routemaster's were on sale in Hong Kong in a fictitious Hong Kong livery. The two models are on sale from a model shop called Hung Hing Toys in Wan Chai, Hong Kong.  I was advised that the seller wanted £35.00 to post both models to the UK. The models are priced at Hong Kong Dollars 129.00 each. As I previously mentioned with the BYD model recently, please consider customs import duties, VAT etc before you purchase from abroad.

CORGI NEW MODELS - PHOTOGRAPHS
Corgi have today released their new catalogue and images of the new models, the descriptive text for each models is also copied below. Corgi have stated that all images are computer rendered images and may be subject to change

OM46618A New Routemaster -  Stagecoach London
Photograph 1 CLICK HERE
Photograph 2 CLICK HERE
Route: 8
Destination: Bow Church
The rainbow ‘Ride with Pride’ New Routemaster bus was created to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT+) diversity in London. It was the first bus of its kind and has gone on to inspire other cities around the world. The bus was created by OUTbound, Transport for London’s (TfL) LGBT+ network as part of an award winning community engagement campaign. It went into service on 2 March 2015 on route 8, and moved to route 15 in October 2015 operated by Stagecoach London. The bus has taken part in two Pride in London parades, and many other high profile events raising awareness of LGBT diversity. During its time on the road it was complemented by two other vehicles – a Docklands Light Railway Train and a Black Cab, all using a similar design. Two limited edition Oyster wallets were produced featuring the rainbow bus, and it gained a huge following in Twitter as part of OUTbound’s #RidewithPride campaign. The original concept and idea was created by Martyn Loukes BEM and the design was created in-house and sponsored by Stagecoach London. The bus also features in driving simulation computer game, where players can drive the bus along the Pride in London parade route.

The other cities to have launched rainbow buses since March 2015 are Toronto, Calgary and Brighton. There are also Ride with Pride taxis in Southampton, and there was a rainbow train in Copenhagen. OUTbound is one of TfL’s diversity networks and was also responsible for changing 48-traffic lights around Trafalgar square to feature same-sex images and gender symbols in 2016. Follow OUTbound on Twitter to find out more about these projects at
@TfLLGBT.

It was in 1884 that the Brighton, Hove & Preston United bus company was formed, a consequence of the amalgamation of a number of smaller horse bus companies and it soon became the main transport operator, the forerunner to today’s Go Ahead Group owned Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Company. Bus No. 489, BJ63 UJT, was launched on July 24, 2015 and is a tribute to Brighton’s famous beach and fun-packed seafront, with a livery consisting of a giant ‘99’ ice-cream, massive sunglasses and a huge seagull’s head, on a background of deckchair stripes, beach-hut colours and deco polka dots. The Beach Bus is dedicated to Andy Durr, the former Brighton Mayor known to many as Brighton's Mr Seafront or ‘the Seafront Reviver’.
