SHOWBUS - REPORT
I attended Showbus at Woburn today with my wife and daughter and it was good to meet up with regular contributors Bob Belcher and John Bennett. The day was fine with sunny intervals and the temperature about 19 degrees. There is no model news to report from the Show. I took photographs of many of the buses that attended, I do not know how many there were but there seemed to be fewer than in previous years judging by the number of photographs I took (although I stand to be corrected if I am wrong on this).

With regards the site, there were a number of problems evident throughout the day. There was a distinct lack of road signposts for the event which caused me some confusion when my sat nav (post code taken from the Showbus website) decided to take me in a different direction to the traffic in the centre of Woburn village. Secondly, it took over 3/4 of an hour to get from the park gate in Woburn village to the car park. A friend of mine walked back to the rally site from the park entrance faster than the traffic on the road (I suppose the drive was about a mile+ long). Thirdly, the ground underfoot was soft which caused a number of buses to get bogged down. A large crowd gathered to watch a tri-axle coach being dragged out. The buses getting stuck then caused a massive backlog of buses waiting to get on the site. There were still buses entering the rally site at 14:00, and I spoke to one driver in a queue of approximately 50 that I photographed on the driveway who told me that he had been waiting for 3 hours to get in! I spoke to another visitor who told me that he had come on an organised trip to the event and the passengers got off the bus and walked onto the rally site. There was next to no mobile phone coverage on the site which caused problems for some traders relying on a mobile signal for their credit card machines to work. Finally, I did not see any designated parking for disabled visitors and saw a gentleman on his disabled scooter struggling on the very uneven ground to drive back to his car in the car park. I also spoke with a disabled lady who I met on the rally site who struggled to walk and she said she had not seen any designated parking and it was causing her issues getting around.

On a positive note, being in a different location to the usual Duxford there were many buses that I had not seen before so I had a very enjoyable walk around the event taking photographs. I shall share some of my favourites with you as the week goes on.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE LONDON BUS MUSEUM
Further to my news update of Sunday 13th September, the following press release and photographs have been received this afternoon from the London bus Museum:

The London Bus Museum has further exciting news for model bus collectors. Back in April 2014, LBM released the first of its collaborations with Jotus which was the fabulous green London Transport Leyland CR16. This model, being a unique vehicle, sold out very quickly prompting the Museum to release a further version depicting CR47 on central area route 213 in London Transport red livery.

With the success of these two CR models, earlier this year the Museum commissioned another fine Jotus model, this time a version of their BEA 4RF4 one and a half deck AEC Regal IV , Park Royal bodied airport coach which was released at the Museum’s “Aviation” themed Spring Gathering event held in April . This was another sales success and as to date only single figures remain unsold.

To coincide with the London Bus Museum’s “Anniversaries” Octoberfest event, on the 18thOctober, we are pleased to announce another Limited Edition Jotus model. This is another completely new model depicting London Transport’s AEC LT type six wheel double deck bus, with Chiswick works built "Camel Back” body, so named because of the destination box mounted integrally with the canopy above the drivers cab. Consisting some 450 vehicles in the fleet number range LT501 to LT950, they were gradually introduced from July 1931 until February 1932 when the last of the batch entered service at Upton Park garage.
Our OO gauge (1:76) scale model is limited to 500 pieces, however the production run is being split into two equal batches of 250, enabling two different routes, vehicle fleet numbers and adverts to be covered. Both batches are painted in the standard pre-war London Transport livery and consist;

LT641 registration number GP3599 on route 12 to Shepherds Bush with adverts for Libby’s Milk, Brymay Matches, John Bull and Aspro;
LT688 registration number GT5055 on route 63 to Honor Oak with adverts for Haig Whiskey, Haliborange, Picture Post and Maclean’s toothpaste.

As is usual both of these Jotus models are of superb quality and finely detailed – even the seat moquette and interior grab handles are reproduced. It is expected they will be on sale for around £80 each, with post and packing to UK addresses £5.00.

At the moment the delivery schedule is very tight to be in time for sale at our Octoberfest Event; please check our website, www.londonbusmuseum.com for availability before travelling to the Museum.

We realise that not every collector will be able to attend the event so one or both models can be ordered from the shop at www.lbmshop.com or contact manager@lbmshop.com

NEW COACH COLLECTION ANNOUNCED BY ATLAS EDITIONS
Further to my news of 4th September, I received an email from Atlas Editions this morning inviting me to subscribe to their new Coach series. Having now looked at their website, it appears that only those who have received the email can order at this time as it is not mentioned on the products for sale page on the Atlas Editions website. I have ordered mine on line and it says delivery can be expected in the usual Atlas Editions 28 days.

The first model model features a Burlingham Seagull in Whittles livery which appears identical to a model which was released as a taster model during March 2013 CLICK HERE. The first three models appear to include the usual free gifts and discounted prices. Viewing the links from the email, it appears that the collection may feature a mixture of UK and Continental models. Photographs shown include the following:
Bedford OB
Bedford Val - Wallace Arnold
Bova Futura - Allander Travel
BMMO C5
Henschel (German)
Krupp
Mercedes Benz O 3500
Plaxton Panorama - Procters
Plaxton Panther - Bus Eireann

The following text appears on the Atlas Editions website:

Your coach awaits… and settle down at the back!

We’ve all got treasured memories of fun-filled coach journeys. Perhaps yours is a school trip for an exciting day out, with everyone rushing for the back seats!; or maybe it’s a works outing (remember those?) to the bright lights of Blackpool, ‘Dreamland’ at Margate or the bracing sea air of Skegness; then again, it could even be a holiday, motoring across country or – if you were really lucky – heading off to the Continent as a pioneering, pre-package-holiday tourist.

Whatever it was, we all remember how coaches and coach travel once loomed so large in all our lives. There was something so special about them. For some of us it was all about clambering up those polished metal stairs, for others it was the comfy seats – leather if you were lucky but usually squeaky old vinyl! But for all of us it was the thrill of being whisked off to pastures new, the trusty driver ploughing ever onwards, oblivious to the noise, the chatter and the sing-alongs behind him. And the further back in time you go, the more beautiful the coaches of yesteryear become. More than a means of transport, coaches are a much-loved, and increasingly rare, part of our transport heritage.

The Burlingham Seagull – a British icon

It is surely the definitive coach of the 1950s – and one of the greatest of all time. The beautiful Burlingham Seagull was released at a time when Britain was bouncing back from a period of postwar austerity. And doesn’t it show? Just look at the 100% authentic 1:76 scale model of this legendary coach that we have created exclusively for you. It’s a perfect replica of a superb early 1950s Blackpool-made Seagull, resplendent in its red and blue Whittle’s of Highley livery. And just look at all that gleaming metalwork, true in every detail to the original Seagull’s highly polished aluminium. We’ve even included the window wipers, wing mirrors and window dividers. You won’t find another Burlingham Seagull model this detailed at this scale anywhere else. Unmissable.

At just £1.99, with FREE p&p, it’s incredible value – especially as it is worth £14.99! It will be sent to you plinth-mounted in a special presentation box, along with a Certificate of Authenticity and a FREE ‘Scarborough Seagulls’ print worth £4.99. That’s not all. Order today and we will place you on our priority delivery service, meaning that each month you will receive the latest model in this exclusive Classic Coaches collection. Plus, in your next three deliveries you’ll receive some exclusive FREE gifts. Read on to find out more…

Movie star looks and pre-war glamour

No Classic Coaches collection is complete without a Bedford VAL. A swinging sixties icon, it ‘starred’ in both ‘The Italian Job’ and The Beatles’ ‘Magical Mystery Tour’. With its unique triple-axle wheel configuration it’s one of the best-loved and best-performing British coaches of all time. Your 1:76 scale replica, in elegant Wallace Arnold livery, is worth £14.99 but is yours for just £8.99, plus p&p. We’ll send it to you boxed and plinth-mounted, with a Certificate of Authenticity including Fact File. Better still, you will also receive an exclusive DVD, ‘The British Coach – A Journey Through Time’ DVD. Worth £9.99, to you it’s FREE!

Then, just a few short weeks later, you will receive another gorgeous Classic Coaches replica – the wonderfully nostalgic Bedford OB. This fondly-remembered ‘bull-nosed’ single-decker first took to the roads in 1939 and was an instant classic. Your 1:76 scale die-cast metal Bedford OB is a masterpiece of the model-makers art, lovingly recreated in stunning detail. At just £14.99 (plus p&p) it’s a bargain too. Along with its plinth, presentation box and Certificate of Authenticity it will be sent to you with another FREE gift, the fascinating 64-page ‘The Golden Age of Coaching’ book worth £7.95.

Classic after classic

So, that’s three coaches and three all-time legends. How do we top that? Easy. We bring in even more legends – and not just great British coaches, but Continental classics too. With a mix of brand-new castings for British models and hard-to-find (and highly-sought-after) models from Atlas Editions’ European partners you have a truly unique collection. While Britain is rightly proud of its coach-building heritage, it’s true that Germany also knows a thing or two about public transportation. Take the Henschel HS 100N for example. The ‘bubble-car’ curves, the practical roof racks and those spectacular roof windows are a coach-spotter’s dream - and the model of it in this collection is now available in the UK for the first time ever! Then there’s the Mercedes Benz O 3500, another Teutonic stunner, this time built for those twisting-turning alpine climbs.

Back in Blighty, we’ve got a jaw-dropping Plaxton Panorama. Stylish and modern when first released in 1958, it’s splendidly retro now, while the instantly recognisable and still-active Bova Futura is surely a modern classic in the making. Don’t miss this opportunity to own the finest collection of die-cast metal coaches. It’s not available anywhere else and there’s no commitment to buy any more models than those you want. Don’t miss out. Order now…
