SHOWBUS As mentioned on Friday evening , sadly I was not able to get to Showbus this year so am not able to do a full Show report. Many thanks to Peter Rigarlsford for advising me that the Code 3 Show model based on a Britbus model (as reported on Friday evening) was a Nottingham City Transport model based on Britbus East Lancs Scania Omnidekka ES-12. Click on the links below to view the official Corgi media photographs: OM41415A/B Daimler ROE Grimsby Cleethorpes Transport, dual destination Grimsby Cleethorpes Transport Joint Committee was formed in 1957 from the amalgamation of Grimsby Corporation Transport (established in 1925) and Cleethorpes Corporation Transport (established in 1930). The two corporations had run a number of joint routes prior to amalgamation.

Transport OM42521A/B Dennis Trident, East Lancs, Preston Bus, dual destination Preston Bus can trace it’s proud history back to the late 19th century and the horse drawn trams of the Preston Tramway Company. Electric trams operated from the company‘s present headquarters on Deepdale Road from 1904, and the first Preston Corporation bus service started in 1922. After deregulation in 1986 the company was sold to its employees in 1993, and became Preston Bus Ltd. More recent history has involved some upheaval and two changes of ownership, but it now looks forward to growth and stability under parent company Rotala. Preston Bus currently operate 20 Dennis Tridents out of a total fleet of 99 buses. Bus 40590 is one of 18 Tridents with East Lancs Bodywork. It can be seen regularly on various services of the Preston Bus City Network, including the Moor Nook 8, which runs every ten minutes during the day. AVAILABLE JUNE 2014

Today, it is an award winning bus operator, providing a comprehensive network of services across Oxford, as well as frequent coach services to London and Heathrow & Gatwick airports. The X90 is the direct coach service between Oxford and London, operating seven days a week. The service operates up to every ten minutes during peak times, the journey takes approximately 100 minutes and serves Baker Street, Marble Arch and Victoria. In 2012, the X90 was given a new look, with 17 refurbished coaches added to the route (numbered 83 to 99). These coaches feature a striking new livery, provide wheelchair access and give more legroom for the passengers. Since the upgrade, the X90 has continued to grow in popularity, so much so that the service frequency has been increased to no fewer than three times. AVAILABLE MARCH 2014

The acquisition of a preserved Douglas Corporation AEC Regent in 1968 provided the impetus to operate buses and led to the founding of ‘Black Prince’ Coaches, named after the famous statue in Leeds City Square. The company’s buses and coaches originally wore a green and cream livery and operated contracts, private hires and a Blackpool Express service. A new livery of red, yellow and maroon, applied differently to each bus, was adopted following deregulation in 1986.

Prince OM46501A/B Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 Metro Line, dual destination ‘Metroline’ is part of the Singapore based ComfortDelGro group of companies, which operate a fleet of around 1,600 buses on over 90 routes mainly in north, north west, west and central London. ‘Metroline’ employ around 5,000 staff and the majority of routes are run under contract to Transport for London. VW1400 is one of a batch of 43 Volvo B9TL Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 vehicles delivered to Metroline in 2012/13. The bus is based at Willesden Garage and is normally to be found on the well-established trunk route 52, operating between Willesden and Victoria, alongside hybrid versions of this vehicle. The route has a peak vehicle requirement of 24 buses at the busiest times. AVAILABLE MAY 2014

In February 2012 the first New Bus for London (NBfL) hit the streets of the capital running on route number 38 between Victoria Station and Hackney. A further seven vehicles were in service by July. The new hybrid diesel-electric motor vehicles were first announced back in 2008 in Mayor of London, Boris Johnson’s election manifesto and have since become commonly known as Boris Buses.

In existence for over 25 years, the company provide more than 300 public transport routes to towns, villages and cities around the country on behalf of the State; self-funded commercial inter-city services; and the national School Transport Scheme on behalf of the Department of Education & Skills. Cork city routes 215 and 203 are high frequency city services that operate under contract to the National Transport Authority. ‘Bus Éireann’ operate 18 such services in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford. ‘Bus Éireann’ employs 2,500 people at 17 locations across the country and has a fleet of approximately 1,100 vehicles. In 2012, it carried out over 77 million passenger journeys. AVAILABLE JANUARY 2014

National Express operate 177 of these Volvo B7RLE single deckers with Wright Eclipse B43F bodies in their West Midlands, Coventry and Dundee fleets. 48 of the buses are allocated to the Wolverhampton garage. This investment supported the introduction of a new bus network for the city in July 2012 with National Express West Midlands proud to carry the people of Wolverhampton.

National Express Dundee and the well-known comic publisher DC Thomson teamed up at the end of 2011 to celebrate some of their famous cartoon characters that had been created in the city. Well known amongst young and old, the comic characters Dennis & Gnasher are celebrated on the company’s busy services 28 & 29 that operate across the city connecting Charleston in the West with Douglas in the East.
