A
NEW BUS FROM RAMBLERS HOLIDAYS The new AEC London Transport Merlin from Britbus "Some time ago Britbus introduced to the model bus scene the AEC Swift which has now moved through several liveries and remained very popular. It has proved to be a really nice model and has certainly enhanced my railway layout in the attic. At the beginning of the year Britbus started work on a new casting for the single deck AEC Merlin and it has illustrated to me just how long and painstaking a job it is to achieve perfection. I had hoped for the model in early summer but now it would appear to be on its way. It is MBS 525 in red on London Transport route A1 which worked between Hounslow West station at the western end of the Piccadilly Line and Heathrow Airport up until the time the Piccadilly Line was extended to the airport.. It was a flat fare route , 1/- and no concessions or half fares. It was non-stop and scheduled to take 12 minutes. Hounslow Garage was its home base and our model has a garage plate AV2. The front blind incorporates both destinations on a blue background with the words Airport Express above on a white background and Non Stop below on a similar white background, making an interesting display. The rear route box is filled with just the route A1 writ large filling the box.. The words Pay as you Enter appear under the front on-side window. Registration is VLW 525G. This special model is a short run of 504 for Ramblers Holidays celebrating its 60th anniversary and comes with an individually numbered certificate. Ramblers Holidays, which is linked to the Ramblers' Association, has for 60 years operated programmes of walking, trekking, sightseeing and cross-country skiing holidays; now they cover the world and are very popular. For a brochure call 01707 331133 or look at their web-site. Our model bus carries advertisements for Ramblers Holidays on both sides and the rear but they are sufficiently unobtrusive not to spoil the model. If you would like one of these models they should be available in October at a cost of £28 which includes postage. Please date your cheque for 1 October 2006 but these will not be banked until the model is ready for dispatch as is our policy. Euros or Eurocheques accepted to the value of E40. Cheques should be made out to Mr S Alderman Many thanks Stuart Alderman" PS: I have some previous Ramblers' models still if you are looking for any, but not the notorious D. Advance notice: we hope to produce a green LT Merlin on route 346 to Bushey Arches in the new year which will have advertisements for the Ramblers Association. Please complete the below order form if you would like to place an order for the Merlin model -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAMBLERS HOLIDAYS NEW LONDON TRANSPORT AEC MERLIN IN RED LIVERY Please send me .........models of the above Britbus Merlin on route A1. CREATIVE
MASTER NORTHCORD - PRESS RELEASE HKBUS2008: South West Trains Tri-axle Leyland Olympian / Alexander Coach Creative Master Northcord Limited is proud to release the South West Trains livery on its well-known 11-metre, tri-axle Leyland Olympian / Alexander R-type coach model. The model represents Stagecoach South 13640 (G283YRJ) in South West Trains livery. The bus itself has a long service history in different fleets and liveries. Delivered new to Hong Kong as Citybus 113, this Alexander-bodied 11-metre Leyland Olympian coach was numbered 13640 by Stagecoach when she returned to the UK in 2003 to operate services for Megabus.com. Retired from Megabus.com service in December 2005, 13640 is one of six converted with luggage and cycle racks for the Rail Support Unit operated by Stagecoach South on behalf of sister company South West Trains, whilst still retaining the WC and Air Conditioning. Additionally, the buses are specially painted in South West Trains livery in accordance with the agreement. 13640 can often be seen operating across the SWT rail network during engineering works at weekends or late at night. This early version of the 11-metre Alexander coach differs somewhat from its sister vehicles, most evidently by having gasket-glazed windows fitted instead of the more modern-looking bonded type seen on most of the Olympians returned to the UK by Stagecoach. As on the previous successful HKBUS2000 series models produced by CMNL, HKBUS2008 has many innovative designs on the tooling, some of which are seen for the first time on a CMNL double-deck model – including the specially designed luggage and cycle racks. This replica features further excellent detailing, inside and out, including all handrails on board and detailed, individual air-vents above the seats. Of note is the improved upper-deck ceiling detail that features the correct colours of the prototype coach. The most remarkable accuracy is seen on the front dome that represents this feature of the Alexander R type bodywork. Once again, this is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the windows and livery application. The model has no ugly metal poles to hold it together. The HKBUS2008 model is limited to 1700 pieces worldwide. They will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Concorde Hobby Shop (HK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan) and Transit Graphics (Australia).

NEWS
OF A BRITBUS COMMISSIONED MODEL I am very grateful to Tony Randall for reminding me of the release of the below model and for sending me some excellent photographs. Unfortunately I inadvertently overlooked this release whilst catching up on the very significant amount of correspondence waiting for me when I returned home from holiday. Tony writes as follows: "Stagecoach East Kent commissioned a limited edition of the Britbus model of an F-registered Scania/Alexander in traditional livery which carries 90th anniversary logos. The model is not strictly authentic as neither of these vehicles has received traditional livery or anniversary logos. There was a limited run of 240 pieces (model no R8-001) for company staff, although some were made available for purchase from Mr. Paul Southgate at Stagecoach in East Kent, St. George's Lane, Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2SY for £27, including postage - cheques payable to "Stagecoach in East Kent"". As yet I have not been able to speak with Paul Southgate so do not know if any are still available. If anyone can advise me it would be much appreciated - Gareth. Photograph

PRESS
RELEASE FROM IPSWICH TRANSPORT MUSEUM MUSEUM ICON IMMORTALISED IN MINIATURE Ipswich’s first motorbus is 56 years old – and is about to be immortalised in a special diecast model. The 1/76 scale replica of Ipswich motorbus ADX1 is being produced by Hong-Kong based Britbus, a diecast model manufacturer of who specialise in buses. The real bus, which was new in 1950, was the first Corporation bus with a diesel engine. It ran in the town until 1973, and has been cared for by volunteers at the Ipswich Transport Museum ever since. Museum vice-chairman Mark Smith explained ‘ADX1 was an early acquisition by the Ipswich Transport Museum and is a symbol of the local transport preservation scene – the bus has been with the museum longer than it was in service’. A lot of hard work has gone into ensuring the model is as accurate as possible. ‘First we supplied paint samples and photographs to Britbus in Hong Kong. They then produced artwork, which we checked for accuracy, and after various changes a mock up model was produced. The final production run is expected to be manufactured in China imminently.’ Mr Smith explained. The museum has yet to be advised of the quantity of the model being produced by Britbus. The museum hopes to stock the model in the museum shop and details will be made available once they are known. Weblink: www.ipswichtransportmuseum.co.uk The Ipswich Transport Museum has one of the largest collections of transport and engineering items relating to one town. There are around 100 major exhibits covering the development of transport and engineering in Ipswich. Wednesday 6 September 2006 |
