NORTHCORD MODEL COMPANY - PRESS RELEASE
The following press release has been received from the Northcord Model Company:

UKBUS0074 ADL Enviro400 MMC - Reading Buses Green Line

Following the significant success in launching the brand new casting of the Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC model in the liveries of National Express West Midlands, Stagecoach in Oxfordshire, Bluestar, Stagecoach West Scotland, Southern Vectis, Stagecoach South, Ensign Bus, Xplore Dundee, Stagecoach North West, Go North East, Stagecoach North Scotland and Go South Coast, Northcord Model Company is now releasing the twentieth version – UKBUS0074 in the livery of Reading Buses with full branding for Green Line.

UKBUS0074 represents fleet number 782 (SN66WRD), that was new to Reading Buses in 2017, utilising the 10.9 metre, single door casting (the actual bus has an 11.5 metre long body).
UKBUS0074 is displaying route 703 with destination of Bracknell via Windsor & Legoland.

782 is carrying full greenline livery, including ‘greenline express’ on both sides and the rear, and ‘greenline’ on the front. The greenline livery and branding are 100% reproduced onto the UKBUS0074 model. The stand-out features of the branding are: route details “Bracknell / Windsor / Slough to LEGOLAND WINDSOR RESORT & Heathrow” on both sides; “WiFi & USB” on the front and “free WiFi & USB charging” on both sides; and “greenline702.co.uk” on the rear.

UKBUS0074 is the second Reading Buses Greenline model produced by Northcord Model Company. The previous one, UKBUS0062 (758, YX64VRU), carries special Green Line banners on each side with the destination at the front displaying ‘Legoland Windsor 702”. UKBUS0062 models were launched in September 2018.

In September 2023, the substantive livery, including pictures, on bus 782 was retained while the branding was changed to FlightLine703.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC UKBUS0074 is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the square, gasket-mounted windows and the livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible. Another main feature on the UKBUS0074 model is its twin tree protectors at the front. The front dome on the model is significant, with curved windscreens on both upper deck and lower deck.

Northcord Model Company is also creating new design standards within the interior of both saloons. These features, inside the compartments, will represent the real, outstanding layout of the Enviro400 MMC, such as the extensive portrayal of handrails on upper deck and lower deck, etc.

The brand new Enviro400 MMC bus models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan), 80M Bus Model Shop (HK) respectively. The UKBUS0074 model is limited to 1200 pieces worldwide.

NEW BEDFORD OB COACHES FROM EFE ROAD
Please see a press release received yesterday from EFE, announcing six new models. Also mentioned in the release is very sad news of the passing of Brenda Joyce, co-founder and wife of Mr Frank Joyce the founder of EFE. I am sure our thoughts are with the Joyce family at this time:

On Saturday 12th October 2024 during the Isle of Wight Bus Museum’s ‘Wightrider’ event in Ryde, Bachmann Europe Plc unveiled six new 1:76 scale Bedford OB coaches as part of its growing EFE Road range of diecast collectables.

The new models continue the legacy of the popular Exclusive First Editions (EFE) models of the Bedford OB, but now feature wing mirrors for the first time. Each is finished in a highly detailed livery that represents its full-size counterpart during its working career, or in preservation where appropriate.
Bedford introduced the OB in 1939 as a replacement for its earlier WLB type. It featured a 28hp engine with a four-speed manual gearbox, a fully floating rear axle, and vacuum servo-assisted hydraulic brakes. The top speed was in the region of 40mph. Seventy-three OBs, most of which having the classic Duple ‘Vista’ bodywork, were completed by the time the Second World War broke out in September that year. A wartime version, the OWB, was built during the war years, but the OB returned after the conflict, with construction continuing until 1951. Altogether, some 12,693 (some sources say 12,766) were completed; 5,493 of which were exported.
Thankfully, around 180 Bedford OBs are known to survive, many of which are in operable condition, so the distinctive gearbox whine that so characterised the OB, can still be heard on Britain’s roads today.

The six new EFE Road models are:
20141 – Bedford OB Coach LLW837 Margo’s of Bexleyheath
20142 – Bedford OB Coach ACC712 Whiteway of Waenfawr
20143 – Bedford OB Coach 1949MN Tours (Isle of Man), Douglas
20144 – Bedford OB Coach PV9371 Mulleys Motorways, Ixworth
20145 – Bedford OB Coach SS7486 Stark’s of Dunbar
20146 – Bedford OB Coach LRO296 The Mountain Goat, Windermere

EFE Road spokesman, Gary Boyd-Hope, said: “With 2024 marking the 85th anniversary of the full-size Bedford OB type, it seemed only fitting to revisit one of EFE’s most popular models and add it to the EFE Road range. The first EFE models were made almost 30 years ago in 1995, so we are delighted to have the opportunity to continue that legacy.”

The six models are expected to reach retailers during late November/early December 2024, with an RRP of £41.95 each.

Note: The EFE Road Bedford OB models are dedicated to the memory of Exclusive First Editions co-founder, Brenda Joyce - 1946 – 2024.
