NEW TRAM
MODEL FROM ATLAS EDITIONS I received a marketing email from Atlas Editions this afternoon with news of a new Blackpool Balloon tram model. The email advised the following: "As a select recipient of the Atlas Editions Newsletter, I also want to give you a sneak preview of our next specially-created release: the Blackpool Tram. This large, 1:76 scale diecast metal model of the famous Blackpool Balloon Tram is one of the true icons of British transportation history. First introduced in the 1930s, incredibly the Balloons are still running to this day. But we’ve chosen to show our Blackpool Balloon Tram in classic 1960s livery, featuring authentic period advertising from legendary entertainer Bruce Forsyth’s summer season at Blackpool’s North Pier. Keep checking the website early next week to be one of the first to order this new release". Friday 29th March 2013 |

NEW BOOK
RELEASED BY AMBERLEY PUBLISHING The following Press release has been received from Amberley Publishing: DUNFERMLINE AND WEST FIFE’S Before the introduction of its tram system and early motor buses, Dunfermline was like any other town of similar size the length and breadth of the county, reliant on the railways and the local stagecoach owners to move the town’s residents from place to place. In the early years of the twentieth century, this would all change quite radically. In 1909 Dunfermline’s first motor bus licences were granted, and the trams started operating. Walter Burt, himself a Fife bus driver, charts the advances of the trams and buses which have served the people of Dunfermline and West Fife, from the earliest humble motor engined vehicles and electric trams, to the air conditioned vehicles on the roads at present. It also takes in the changing face of West Fife, with a lot of changes having taken place in the backgrounds of most locations in the photographs.

The book costs £14.99 and

JULY TO DECEMBER 2013 CATALOGUE - PHOTOGRAPHS Click on the links to view high resolution photographs of the models announced this morning: OM40819A Bristol Lodekka West Yorkshire The West Yorkshire Road Car Company existed from 1927, having previously been The Harrogate Road Car Company and The Harrogate & District Road Car Company. Operation of the former municipal services at Keighley and York, under joint agreements in which the Company provided the vehicles, were an interesting feature of the company from the early thirties. In 1951, following its display at the Festival of Britain Exhibition, West Yorkshire took delivery of the second prototype Lodekka (chassis no. LDX002), as its fleet number 822, renumbered DX1 under the April 1954 scheme, it was registered JWY 712 and operated in the Harrogate area. It lacked the distinctively stylish fairing of the production models. The company built up a large fleet of Lodekkas, all of which were rear entrance LD and FS models, with the addition of a short lived front entrance FSF from United. Lodekkas worked on town and inter-urban services. Two of the latter, Ripon and Scarborough have been developed into nationally recognised high profile routes. In August 1989 West Yorkshire Road Car Co Ltd. was sold to Yorkshire Rider, which included numerous services in the Leeds, Bradford and Otley areas. Available August OM40819B Bristol Lodekka West Yorkshire OM41229A Wright Gemini Yellow Buses Award-winning Yellow Buses is based in Bournemouth, Dorset, and operate a fleet of 132 buses and 16 coaches with a staff of over 400. Affectionately referred to as the ‘Yellows’ the name Yellow Buses is the trading style used for Bournemouth Transport which began trading in 1902. Originally known as Bournemouth Corporation Transport, the company began life running trams that were also in service in the neighbouring towns of Christchurch and Poole. Today the ‘Yellows’ carry more than 14 million passengers a year with their buses travelling over five million miles across the Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and East Dorset area. In 2011 Yellow Buses became part of RATP Group through its subsidiary RATP Dev, which focuses on managing transport network operations in France and internationally. RATP Group is the world’s fifth largest public transport provider with metro, rail, tram and bus operations across the globe. Available September OM41229B Wright Gemini Yellow Buses OM41605A Crossley DD42 Lancaster City Transport Former tramway operator Lancaster City Transport obtained thirteen 7'6" wide normal-height Crossley double deckers in three batches during 1947-8. The first batch 444-7 (HTB 444-7) differed by having the drooping window line around the front upper deck. When new, these had Brockhouse-Salerni turbo-transmission recognisable by a header tank on the front bulkhead, but they were converted to constant mesh in 1954-5 and lasted until 1963. The later batches 569-72 (HTF 569‑72) and 961-5 (JTD 961-5) were like our model – eight similar examples were diverted to Sheffield. The last (961) survived into 1969. An early 1960s livery change affecting all of Lancaster’s buses extended the ruby down over the vents to meet the lower deck windows. Available December OM41605B Crossley DD42 Lancaster City Transport OM42415A Plaxton Panorama Wallace Arnold In 1912 Robert Barr bought his first vehicle, a Karrier, which he ran as a lorry during the week and with a change of body, to a charabanc for country trips from Leeds at weekends. His business grew slowly and growth was halted completely by the outbreak of war in 1914. In 1920 he ran his first charabanc trip to London, which must have been something of a marathon considering the 12mph speed limit and the use of solid tyres. In 1926 Robert Barr bought the Leeds charabanc operator partnership of Wallace Cunningham and Arnold Crowe which then gave the Company its unusual and unforgettable title. In 1940 Wallace Arnold operated front engined Leyland Tigers and by the late sixties the Company had standardised on underfloor engined Leyland Leopard chassis with Plaxton bodies for its own holiday tours programme. In 1968 a new livery of two tone grey with orange trim was introduced, replacing the traditional pale cream with red wheels and flashes, except for the Devon fleet which remained pale cream all over. In 2005, following many years of speculation, Wallace Arnold was merged with Shearings Holidays, its main competitor which was under common ownership. Available November OM42415B Plaxton Panorama Wallace Arnold OM44711A Dennis Pointer Touchwood Previously operated under the brand name ‘Central Connect’, ‘Blue Diamond’ was created from the acquisition of Zaks Bus and Coach Services Ltd, North Birmingham Busways Ltd and Birmingham Motor Traction Ltd. In recent years the brand has continued to grow its presence in the West Midlands. As part of ‘Central Connect’s’ rebrand, fares and tickets were restructured with the aim of offering better value to passengers. A new royal blue livery has also been introduced. Available July OM44711B Dennis Pointer Touchwood OM46018A Wright Eclipse First Potteries From Monday the 26th September 2011, customers using First Potteries Service 25 (City Centre to Keele via Stoke and Newcastle) and Services 26/26A (City Centre to Newcastle via Bentilee, Meir, Longton and Stoke) noticed some significant differences to the service they received. ‘Gold Service’ was launched and as well as having dedicated drivers and extra bus cleans throughout the day, one bus on each route returned to heritage red and yellow livery, which was first introduced in 1986 when the former PMT company was subject to a management buyout upon deregulation and privatisation. The company also implemented a ‘Gold Service Customer Charter’ that outlined their commitment to run reliable, punctual and clean services with friendly, customer focused, drivers. Fleet number 66843 was chosen to be the Gold Service representative at Newcastle-under Lyme Depot, operating Service 25. Available August OM46018B Wright Eclipse First Potteries OM46408A Caetano Levante National Express Welsh Dragon National Express operate a quartet of coaches featuring patriotic liveries celebrating their services in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The special Welsh Dragon, ‘Y Ddraig Goch’ coach, unveiled in 2008 has travelled hundreds of thousands of miles across Britain’s roads. The iconic red dragon is instantly recognised throughout the world and as Europe’s largest scheduled coach operator National Express are proud to be able to showcase this proud symbol on one of its vehicles. The Caetano Levante is a coach body built on the Scania K-series 6x2 & 4x2 and Volvo B12B 4x2 chassis, exclusively for National Express in the UK. The brief given by National Express was to design ‘an easy access vehicle to schedule one of the Disability Discrimination Acts with the wow factor.’ Available December OM46408B Caetano Levante National Express Welsh Dragon OM46607 New Bus for London 38 Victoria Top Hat OM46701A Wright Eclipse 2 Wilts and Dorset Wilts and Dorset was first seen on the side of buses in the Salisbury area in 1915. By 1983 they had moved into Poole and Bournemouth. In 2003 they became part of the Go-Ahead Group. Wilts and Dorset operates under two main brands – ‘More’ covering the Bournemouth and Poole areas and ‘Salisbury Reds’ which cover Salisbury and parts of Wiltshire. ‘More’ bus operate a fleet of over 160 Available October OM46701B Wright Eclipse 2 Wilts and Dorset OM46703A Wright Eclipse 2 Lothian Displaying a new distinctive livery the newly introduced East Lothian Buses travelling the 113 service feature a ‘green friendly’ Euro V emissions standard exhaust, lowering the levels of air pollution compared to the buses previously used on the route. In addition to this the vehicles are also more fuel efficient meaning that the carbon footprint of the route will be much lower. The essential rural service also benefits from an improved timetable, which includes the introduction of an earlier morning journey from Pencaitland, an extra evening journey from the Western General Hospital and evening journeys extended to the West End from Frederick Street. With the re-opening of the East End the service now provides a faster link to the city centre via Waterloo Place and Regent Road.
