I wonder if I could ask you a great favour? My daughter is going to the
World Scout Jamboree in Sweden next month with the Greater London North
contingent - each contingent has it's own, self designed badge, and theirs
features a Routemaster. As a diecast collector, I helped them get a
professional Code 3 commemorative model created to reflect the badge as a
fundraiser. The model is based on a 1/76 Oxford Diecast Routemaster - the
full story is here: http://www.gln-jamboree.org.uk/unitpages/unitlogo.html
and is in a certificated run of 200. Saturday 25th June 2011 |

CORGI
OOC OM43915A DAIMLER CW UTILITY BIRMINGHAM Further to my News article of 20th June, I am very grateful to Mr Geoff Kelland for forwarding me a copy of an email he sent to Corgi on 7th August last year which Corgi acknowledged receipt of but sadly do not appear to have acted on. "Looking at the new catalogue it is good to see a Birmingham City Transport release under the OOC banner, however there are a couple of issues of which you should be aware. The vehicle you have chosen to model is illustrated in the TPC book Birmingham City Transport on page 97 and looks to be a fair representation of the real thing however the numberplate should be under the cab window rather than at the bottom of the radiator and the radiator should not have a heavily chromed finish as these were produced in wartime to a utility specification. The service you have chosen to use needs some explanation, service 22 was the direct replacement of tram route 22 in February 1930 and ran between the City, Station Street and Bolton Road Small Heath, in October 1935 service 21 & 22 were combined to form service 28 running between City Station Street and Great Barr via Bolton Road with service number 22 being retained for short workings terminating at Bolton Road. This means that the destination on OM43915A is correct and appropriate for the vehicle modelled. For the alternative destination you have chosen City Suffolk Street 22 which unfortunately is totally inappropriate. Birmingham City Transport never used the city terminal points on destination blinds, it was renowned for only using the outer terminal point regardless of direction of travel, all bus stops had to or from city marked on them. The only exceptions to this rule was when a bus was terminating in the city but short of its usual terminal point or a cross city service terminating in the City. This error is further compounded by the use of Suffolk Street as this was never used by buses on the Bolton Road 22 service. The use of 22 for short workings of service 28 was discontinued in February 1955 and the service number was then used to renumber service 20B in July 1957. The 20 group of services were operated between a large municipal housing estate at Weoley Castle and the City Suffolk Street. So the destination used on OM43915B is not correct for bus 1389 as it had been scrapped in 1951 six years before the number 22 was allocated to a service terminating in Suffolk Street. May I suggest that a most typical Birmingham destination of the period and indeed right up to the start of WMPTE in 1969 would be SERVICE EXTRA, or indeed service 14B KITTS GREEN (LEA VILLAGE) as illustrated on page 96 of the same book. I offer these notes in the hope that a more accurate model may be produced and assure you that there is no criticism intended". Wednesday 22 June 2011 |

HERE II received the below from Time Tunnel Models which gives an explanation as to the price of this models: "Pricing - we assumed this would be a normal priced release. As this is a one-off model, EFE have to recoup all the tooling costs on just one model run - as a result, the price is much higher than initially assumed. The Single Deck RM we will retail at £38.95. This is the best price we have been able to offer for the product, due to a very high trade price." Sunday 5 June 2011 |
