NORTHCORD MODEL COMPANY - PRESS RELEASE
The following press release has been received today from the Northcord Model Company:

UKBUS6511 ADL Enviro400 MMC - Stagecoach West Scotland

Following the significant success in launching the brand new casting of the Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC model in the livery of National Express West Midlands, Stagecoach in Oxfordshire and Bluestar, Northcord Model Company is now releasing the fifth livery on the 10.9 metre long, single-door casting – UKBUS6511 in the livery of Stagecoach West Scotland with full route branding for route 11.

UKBUS6511 represents fleet number 10930 (SN67XAY) that has 10.9 metre, single door bodywork and was new to Stagecoach West Scotland in 2018. 10930 is one of 27 new Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMCs introduced by Stagecoach West Scotland on former A1 Service route 11 (Ardrossan-Kilmarnock) in January 2018. The bus is fitted with automatic vehicle location software, together with e-leather seats, free WiFi and USB sockets.

10930 carries a full and outstanding brand livery for route 11. The special branding is reproduced onto the UKBUS6511 model. The stand-out features of the branding are: the “every 7/8 mins Mon-Fri daytime” frequency and the prominent “the Eleven” along with the key locations served (Ardrossan‧Saltcoats‧Stevenston‧Kilwinning‧Irvine‧Crosshouse‧Kilmarnock) that are repeated on both sides and rear.

Additional details that the model carries include the “FREE WiFi” and “USB Sockets” logos on either side and rear. The model also correctly features the opposite-facing seats at the rear of the upper deck saloon.

Regrettably, the manufacturing contractor has made two egregious errors by failing to replicate this livery correctly despite having the correct, light blue paint sample for the front dome and the livery pdf, both kindly supplied by Stagecoach. The factory has produced the model using the slightly blue if compared with the standard Stagecoach dark blue for the front dome instead and has chosen to use the same blue for the rear branding between the upper and lower rear windows.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC UKBUS6511 is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the square, gasket-mounted windows and the livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible. Another main feature on the UKBUS6511 model is its single tree protector at the front. The front dome on the model is significant, with curved windscreens on both upper deck and lower deck.

Northcord Model Company is also creating new design standards within the interior of both saloons. These features, inside the compartments, will represent the real, outstanding layout of the Enviro400 MMC, such as the extensive portrayal of handrails on upper deck and lower deck, etc.

The A1 Service name is one of the iconic operators in Scotland – revered in the same way as Lothian Buses (and predecessors) and Craig Group (West Coast Motors and family). Its dark blue and cream livery, often enhanced with dark red, made it a firm favourite with bus enthusiasts. Its previously un-numbered trunk route between Ardrossan and Kilmarnock ran to a high frequency. Yet, despite the seemingly outward unified appearance, this was a company that comprised a multiplicity of individual owners.

Limited bus operations began in the early years of the previous century that focused on serving principal towns in Ayrshire but it was not until late 1925 when Ayrshire Bus Owners Association, trading as A1 Service was set up to begin operation the following January, operating between Ardrossan and Kilmarnock and to a fixed timetable. A limited company, Ayrshire Bus Owners (A1 Service) Ltd. was set up in May 1931 which issued 22 shares, each shareholding entitling the owner to operate 2 buses.

As the years progressed, some owners fell away, by retirement or death, and the shares passed to others outwith the original co-operative or to existing owners. Some of the co-operative’s shareholders also ran buses or coaches outwith the A1 company.

The remaining owners decided to accept an offer from Stagecoach, which had previously purchased the neighbouring Western Scottish company in July 1994, to sell the company and A1 Service became a Stagecoach subsidiary on 29th January 1995.

Although many of the buses were sold immediately, the replacements, both new and second hand, retained the A1 Service name within the then current map and stripes fleet name style.

CMNL modelled two of the second generation of new buses for Stagecoach A1 Service: UKBUS1016 (in later, lighter blue and cream livery) and UKBUS0019 (in overall wrap for Belmont Prize Winners); each of these models bearing the destination 11 Ardrossan.

For further reading about the history of A1 Service, collectors’ attention is drawn to the following publications: “Sixty Years of A.1. Service” by George Heaney; “Ayrshire Bus Owners A1 Service- Seventy Years of Serving Ayrshire” by George Heaney and “Ayrshire Bus owners (A1 Service) Ltd” by The PSV Circle, with much of the narrative supplied by George Heaney.

The brand new 10.9 metre Enviro400 MMC bus models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan), 80M Bus Model Shop and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. The UKBUS6511 model is limited to 1008 pieces worldwide.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF EFE'S RECENTLY RELEASED MODEL 34116 AEC RT - BROWN'S BLUE
Please see below photographs of EFE's latest release, 34116 AEC RT - Brown's Blue

EFE have advised the following:

"Preserved former London Transport RT1347 registration KLB596 has been repainted to represent one of nine similar vehicles acquired secondhand by Browns Blue Coaches Ltd of Markfield, Leicestershire in 1958. Eight RTs had the familiar route number box fitted on the front roof dome, the exception was ex-RT173 HLW160 which received a later non-roofbox body during overhaul but had been disposed of early by LT. Although RT173 no longer exists, KLB596 represents a non-roofbox Browns Blue RT.

We gratefully acknowledge the assistance of RT1347’s owner Mick Gamble, whose authoritative work “Browns Blue: The Leicestershire Bus Company That Took the Community to Its Heart” was published in 2012.
The model has a RRP of £34.95"

BUSES FESTIVAL, BRITISH MOTOR MUSEUM, GAYDON
I returned home earlier this evening after a very enjoyable day at the Show. This was the 6th Show at Gaydon, but my first visit. I decided to treat myself and purchased a VIP ticket (more about that later). Over 100 buses and coaches were on display and the model manufacturers were represented by Bachmann who had a stand in the main Museum building. Bachmann had on display a selection of of previously released models together with flyers for previously announced models. No new models were announced at the Show. Bachmann had on display, two very early samples of their Leyland Atlantean and the Volvo Olympian/Palatine 1 new castings, the Bachmann representative stressed that both of these samples have yet to be checked for accuracy against the CAD of the real buses. I understand that the Palatine is in for tooling and that the First Shot casting is expected within the next few months. I have shown below, a small selection of photographs from the Bachmann stand. I mentioned earlier that I purchased a VIP ticket, in addition to the entrance ticket, each VIP ticket holder was given a goody bag containing a Code 3 model advertising the show (based on the Atlas Editions RTW casting), a copy of last years Show DVD, a copy of the 2020 Buses Yearbook and a pin badge (I hope to publish photographs of the model over the next few days). VIP ticket holders were also able to attend a talk onboard AEC Regent V - Devon General EOD524D, about the vehicles history from one of the owners Mr Denis Chick and a talk by Mr Allan Millar the Editor of Buses Magazine about his role as Editor and some of the places he has visited over the past 12 months whilst compiling articles for the magazine.

In relation to outstanding EFE models, I was advised that the Browns RT 34116 and 16611 Leyland National LT are due to arrive in the Country imminently and will definitely be released prior to Showbus, the exact release date to be confirmed. In relation to the Clydeside RML 42301, this is currently awaiting a production slot.

NORTHCORD MODEL COMPANY - PRESS RELEASE
The following press release has been received a few minutes ago from The Northcord Model Company:

UKBUS6515 ADL Enviro400H MMC - Metroline

Northcord Model Company is pleased to announce the release of UKBUS6515, the fourth release of the 10.3 metre, 2-door casting of this distinctive, modern, double-decker in the United Kingdom.

The fourth livery to be carried on the brand-new Alexander Dennis Enviro400H MMC model, is Metroline, produced in standard London red livery.

UKBUS6515 represents fleet number TEH2087 (LK15CUH) that has 10.3 metre, dual-door bodywork and was new to Metroline in 2015. Metroline has a fleet of 8 units of such Alexander Dennis Envoro400 MMC Hybrids. TEH2087 has a Euro6 hybrid driveline and forms the last bus in the batch for Metroline. The model carries the roof fleet number MTG TEH2087.

This bus is based at Metroline’s Cricklewood Garage where it operates on busy route 332 which runs between Paddington and Brent Park Tesco.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro400H MMC UKBUS6515 is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the square-cornered, patented quick-release windows of the real bus and the livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible. Another main feature on the UKBUS6515 model is its dual individual tree protectors at the front. The front dome on the model is significant, with curved windscreens on both upper deck and lower deck.

Northcord Model Company is also creating new design standards within the interior of both saloons. These features, inside the compartments, will represent the real, outstanding layout of the Enviro400H MMC, such as the additional ventilation equipment on the upper deck ceiling, and the extensive portrayal of handrails on upper deck and lower deck, etc. Further additional detail carried by the model include the special sunlight protection shade on the top of the front upper and lower windscreens.

The brand new Enviro400H MMC bus models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan), 80M Bus Model Shop and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. The UKBUS6515 model is limited to 1008 pieces worldwide.

FORWARD MODELS TO CEASE TRADING
The following announcement was made earlier today on the Forward Models Facebook page:

Forward Models at the terminus

"Forward Models (Birmingham) Limited has announced that it is closing down. The announcement was made following the retirement of the founder, Derek Perry, due to ill health and prices rises which affected the sale of new models.

The company was set up by in 2011 by Derek who wanted to make a few models of the buses he remembered growing up in Birmingham in the 1950s and 1960s. Derek went on to produce 4,000 buses in that first batch of Birmingham 'Standards' including 'tin fronts' and Crossley radiators. Further models were produced in WMPTE livery and later in Edinburgh, Hull and Newcastle colours.

Designs were also prepared for buses from Manchester and Glasgow, to be followed by Belfast, Coventry, Rotherham, Cardiff and other cities. The order was to be sent to the factory in China at the end of June 2016, coinciding with the result of the referendum. There was an immediate and regrettable reaction on the international money markets. The value of the pound dropped massively.

The models were eventually delivered in early 2018 but at a selling price that was 50% higher than the previous models. Inevitably, they did not sell well enough in a market that was already in turmoil with the loss of EFE and other manufacturers. Derek was diagnosed with a serious illness. This made it impossible to continue the tasks of administering the company and marketing the new models. Derek decided to wind up the company in early 2019. He says: 'My plans for the future are sadly ended. It is with much regret that I am simply unable to continue as Forward Models. I can, at least, say that I am proud of the models I was able to produce and I thank everyone who has supported this enterprise'."

NORTHCORD MODEL COMPANY - PRESS RELEASE
The following press release has been received this morning from Northcord Model Company:

UKBUS6517 ADL Enviro400 MMC - Plain White CKD Kit

Northcord Model Company is pleased to announce the release of UKBUS6517, the long awaited 10.5 metre single door casting of this distinctive, modern, double-decker in the United Kingdom, in CKD kit form.

The UKBUS6517 CKD kit includes a plain white 10.5 metre, single door diecast body, plain black frame windows, unpainted ceilings, seating units and seats as well as all hand rails. A fully illustrated set of assembly instructions is included within the CKD kit box to enable the modeller to build up the model in whatever way is desired by each modeller.

NMC understands the difficulty in attaching some very small items, particularly the windscreen wipers which can easily become lost, therefore those items are already attached to the windscreen assembly to avoid such losses. However, because modellers will choose to paint their body shell to their own desired scheme in the main, the driver rear-view mirrors have not been pre-attached to the body shell by the factory.

The attached photos show the progression as follows: Photo 1 illustrates all parts supplied in the CKD kit laid out on top of the illustrated instructions; Photo 2 highlights the plain white body shell with other major components and Photo 3 shows a completed kit that is described in more detail, below.

The fully-painted model is a completely amateur-built example representing Arriva Northumbria 7541 (YX17NNO).

This model took a total of five days from collection to completion and included all interior and exterior painting, assembly of all parts and final exterior detailing using home-made decals.

In addition to the featured Arriva Sapphire livery on the 10.5m Enviro400 MMC, other Arriva liveries are possible by representing fleets such as Arriva Midlands, Arriva Kent Thameside or Arriva Yorkshire.

Of the other companies that have specified the 10.5m bus, First companies feature largely and across much of Britain with a plethora of colours and livery layouts from which to choose.

Of course, modellers who maintain their own, fictitious, bus fleets will enjoy the flexibility to develop their style from the ground up as they build their own CKD kits.

NMC would welcome seeing photos of modellers’ built kits shared on Social Media.

The brand new 10.5 metre Enviro400 MMC bus model CKD kit will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan), 80M Bus Model Shop and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. The UKBUS6517 CKD kit is limited to 1200 pieces worldwide.
