PRESS RELEASE FROM EFE ROAD
The following Press release and photographs have been received this morning from EFE Road:

NEW LEYLAND ATLANTEAN ‘SEA DOG’ OPEN TOP BUSES FROM EFE ROAD

EFE Road is delighted to present the first five of its long-awaited new 1:76 scale diecast Leyland Atlantean ‘Sea Dog’ open top double decker buses as part of Bachmann Europe Plc’s Spring 2025 British Railway Announcements.
The full-size ‘Sea Dogs’ were built for the well-known operator, Devon General, which had begun running regular open top bus tours of the Torbay area in the summer of 1955.However, in 1961 Devon General introduced a fleet of nine specially built Leyland Atlanteans with Metro-Cammell bodies, each seating 75 passengers. Each was named after an historical naval or maritime figure, which quickly earned them the nickname ‘Sea Dogs’.

In their distinctive cream and red livery, they became a familiar sight on the 12A-12D routes serving Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Babbacombe and Kingswear, and carried generations of holidaymakers for the next 20 years. They were built as convertibles, with detachable roofs, meaning that they could operate as normal double deckers during the low season.

In January 1971 Devon General became part of the Western National Omnibus Company (itself part of the National Bus Company), and during the next two years the Sea Dogs were repainted into NBC poppy red and white, and also converted to one-man operation. They initially carried Devon General branding under NBC ownership, but this was later superseded by Western National and other NBC liveries as their duties took them further afield into Cornwall and Dorset. Withdrawal commenced in 1982, and the Sea Dogs went their separate ways, finding use in places including London, Lancashire, East Yorkshire and Glasgow.

The five new EFE Road ‘Sea Dogs’ represent examples of the type during various stages of their post-Devon General careers. The models feature a newly tooled upper deck with metal handrails, separately fitted metal bodyside destination banner boards (where applicable), and the latter style of lower positioned, one man operation route blinds. Two patterns of rear engine bustle are also included in the tooling suite, and the models also carry wing mirrors for the first time on an EFE Leyland Atlantean.

The new models are:

40601 – Leyland Atlantean Open Top Western National NBC 926 926GTA.
This model depicts registration 926GTA ‘Sir Francis Drake’ in its post-1973 condition as fleet number 926, complete with lower route blind. The model is finished in NBC Poppy Red and White with Western National branding, operating on service 514 to Penzance. It also features period advertising on the original-style rear engine bustle, and separately fitted destination banner boards on the body sides.

40602 – Leyland Atlantean Open Top Ribble 1927 927GTA
Our model represents registration 927GTA (formerly ‘Sir Martin Frobisher’) in its circa 1986 condition as Ribble Motor Services fleet number 1927, complete with original engine bustle and lowered route blind. The model is finished in the distinctive Ribble white, red and grey striped livery, and carries excursion service 02 blinds.

40603 – Leyland Atlantean Open Top First Glasgow 39989 ABV669A
Here we have 927GTA once again, this time depicted in its 2004-2007 condition as First Glasgow fleet number 39989 (registration ABV669A), complete with original engine bustle. The model is finished in the classic Glasgow Corporation orange, cream and green livery, but with Glasgow cityscape decals as working on the First City Tour sightseeing services.

40801 – Leyland Atlantean Open Top Round London Sightseeing 933GTA
The model shoes registration 933GTA (formerly ‘Sir Walter Raleigh’) in its post-1982 condition after transfer to Holman Bros. Coaches of Wood Green for use on London Transport sightseeing services around the Capital. It is finished in London Transport red livery, complete with solid white roundels, London cityscape decals and ‘Round London Sightseeing Tour’ branding. The lower position route blind and later style of replacement rear engine bustle complete the model.

40803 – Leyland Atlantean Open Top Red Bus NBC 925 925GTA
Registration 925GTA (formerly ‘Admiral Blake’) is modelled in its post-1983 condition after transfer from Western National to North Devon Limited, a National Bus Company operator trading as Red Bus. The model is finished in NBC poppy red and white livery with Red Bus branding and full Western Counties Building Society advertising all round. The lower position route blind carries a service 301 to Westward Ho! Destination, while the later style of replacement rear engine bustle completes the model.

EFE Road spokesman, Gary Boyd-Hope, said: “It is a great pleasure to finally bring the first of the ‘Sea Dogs’ to market after such a long time, and we thank collectors for their patience. The models make a very welcome addition to the expanding EFE Road range, offering striking colour schemes and geographical interest beyond their original West Country stamping ground, and help capture the joy of holidays gone by.”

The five models are expected to reach retailers during Spring 2025, with an RRP of £44.95.

Bus Garage
EFE Road also announced a new ready made Bus Garage to support their range of bus models. Please the see below photograph.

UPDATE 3RD FEBRUARY- NOT CANCELLED DELAYED
Last night I published the below  information stating that model 40802 had been cancelled. This information was published in good faith on the basis of an email forwarded to me from a trusted source in the trade stating it had been cancelled. I have since been advised by my contact at Bachmann that the model has not been cancelled, but has been delayed. I apologise for any confusion caused.

Many thanks to Neil from Time Tunnel Models for advising me that the following model has been cancelled and will no longer be released. I understand all other outstanding models EFE Road model are still ongoing:

LT MUSEUM CORGI 70TH ANNIVERSARY ROUTEMASTER OLD AND NEW GIFT SET
The LT Museum released their Corgi Commissioned Routemaster 70th Anniversary Gift Set during December. The set carries the Corgi Stock code CP46621 and comprises a Routemaster RM in London Transport red and a New Routemaster in a London United silver livery. Shortly after the sets release, I was contacted by several people who were unhappy with the thick sliver lines printed on the side windows of the RM. I am grateful to Peter Edgar who wrote to the LT Museum expressing his disappointment, for forwarding their reply to me. The Museum wrote “…. Unfortunately no one has ever managed to produce a sliding window on a 1:76 model. The windows are just 14mm wide and we have no other option, but to print the imitation of sliding window.”

Routemaster RM – London Transport
Fleet number: RM2063

Route number: 9
Destination: Liverpool Street.

New Routemaster – London United RATP Group

NORTHCORD MODEL COMPANY - PRESS RELEASE
The following press release has been received this morning from The Northcord Model Company:

UKBUS6535 ADL Enviro400 MMC - Hampshire Bus

Following the significant success in launching the brand new casting of the Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC model in the liveries of National Express West Midlands, Stagecoach in Oxfordshire, Bluestar, Stagecoach West Scotland, Southern Vectis, Stagecoach South, Ensign Bus, Xplore Dundee, Stagecoach North West, Go North East, Stagecoach North Scotland, Go South Coast, Reading Buses and Greater Manchester Bee Network, Northcord Model Company is now releasing the twenty second version – UKBUS6535 in the livery of Hampshire Bus.

Utilising the 10.9 metre, single door casting, UKBUS6535 represents fleet number 10700 (YEL4T), that was new to Stagecoach South in 2017 with the original registration number SN66VVL.

UKBUS6535 is displaying route activ8 with destination of Salisbury via Tidworth, Bulford.

10700 carries the heritage Hampshire Bus livery, including ‘HampshireBus’ on all sides; ‘Proud to serve Hampshire since 1983’ on both sides and the rear. The name ‘Stagecoach’ and logo with updated colours feature on all sides.

On 1st April 1983, a bus company named Hampshire Bus, was formed to run bus services across Andover, Basingstoke, Winchester and Southampton. Previously, bus services in these areas were operated by the larger Hants & Dorset bus company and which, under the National Bus ownership, was divided into three companies.

Originally, the livery featured a full, blue, rear profile, albeit with white bumper on Leyland Nationals, which was found to be too dark particularly when buses were operated at night so, to enhance visibility, the red wedge was added and this is the version featured on UKBUS6535.

Almost four years to the day since formation, on 2nd April 1987 Hampshire Bus was the first National Bus Company business to be purchased by Skipburn Ltd. and to this day remains to serve the communities of Handover, Basingstoke and Winchester by the Stagecoach Group. Skipburn Ltd. was a holding company formed by Ann Gloag, Brian Souter, their Canadian uncle Frazer McColl and Dawson Williams, MD of Hampshire Bus as a means of purchasing NBC bus operating companies.

The Hampshire Bus name continued until the early 2000s, before finally being absorbed into the Stagecoach brand name.

To mark the 40th anniversary, Stagecoach South unveiled its ADL Enviro400 MMC (10700) in the retro Hampshire Bus livery that was a popular sight on Hampshire streets, during the mid-1980s and until the 1990s, in March 2023.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC UKBUS6535 is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the square, gasket-mounted windows and the livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible. Another main feature on the UKBUS6535 model is its tree deflector at the front to protect front screen, front dome and side window. The front dome on the model is significant, with curved windscreens on both upper deck and lower deck.

Northcord Model Company is also creating new design standards within the interior of both saloons. These features, inside the compartments, will represent the real, outstanding layout of the Enviro400 MMC, such as the extensive portrayal of handrails on upper deck and lower deck, etc.

The brand new Enviro400 MMC bus models will be distributed by John Ayrey Die-Casts Limited (UK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan), 80M Bus Model Shop (HK) respectively. The UKBUS6535 model is limited to 1008 pieces worldwide.
