EFE AEC RT 10131A SPECIAL
COMMISSION BY TRANSPORT FOR LONDON - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have received the following communication from TfL which gives additional information regarding their specially commissioned AEC RT. Could I please bring your attention to the last sentence which states that no contact should be made with TfL or the LT Museum as none will be available for public purchase. "Your March news sheet makes reference to the LT Museum model of the gold RT produced by EFE. It points out that model 10131A is a private commission for TfL. This is indeed the case and I am able to give you further details for your records. The model has been commissioned by TfL Street Management, the division of TfL that sponsored the refurbishment of RT 4712 and its painting into gold for the Jubilee last year. That was the reason the vehicle carried road safety advertising. As you may already know, the gold RT is a very fine model, and is also unique in that RT 4712 is the only bus ever to carry "Transport for London" as a fleet name. It is in the style of the old underlined "London Transport" fleet name and, being quite subtle, might have been missed by many people. This special version of the model represents the bus as it appeared in its first public trip in the Jubilee Parade in June, and differs from the model that is on sale to the public by having 50 as a 'route number', with "THE QUEEN'S GOLDEN JUBILEE" in the 'via' destination blind box. The standard model is, as you know, shown with blinds as running on route 23. The special edition bus also has ER 50 on each side as garage running numbers; another correct feature for the Parade day, and missing from the standard version. Only 500 of this 'private' version of the model have been produced and are to be used for presentation pieces. The boxes containing the models are not, however, marked with 10131A. They carry the model number 10131, which is the same as the standard model that is for sale, and there might be some confusion as a result if any ever reach the second hand market. However, they are not for sale and not only should the Museum not be approached, as you point out on your web site, but neither should TfL." Tuesday 15 April 2003 |

PRESS RELEASE FROM CREATIVE MASTER NORTHCORD The following press release and photograph has just been received from Creative Master Northcord Ltd. I hope to publish further close up pictures of the model within the next few days. ukbus 2003 Metroline 2-door Dennis Trident Following the great success of its open-top Plaxton President bodied Dennis Trident replica (ukbus 2001, Edinburgh Tour) in late 2002, Creative Master Northcord Limited (CMNL) has proudly released its first two door version on this new casting, ukbus 2003, Metroline, in London red livery. It will be the focus of attention from bus model collectors as well as from bus enthusiasts again. The Plaxton President is one of the most popular double-deck bodies in the UK, particularly when fitted to the Dennis Trident chassis. The replica features excellent detailing, inside and out, including an opening engine door and engine detail. This is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the gasket windows and livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible. Like all CMNL double-decker replicas, the model has no ugly metal poles to hold it together. The ukbus 2003 model has a new anti-branch feature and is limited to 2800 pieces worldwide. The replica carries the fleet number of TPL 259 (LN51 KYT) which is one of a batch of 33 10.5 metre Dennis Tridents with Plaxton President bodywork delivered to Metroline in early 2002. The brand new 2 door Plaxton President double-deck bus models will be distributed by Corgi Classics Limited (UK), Porte Publishing Company (Japan) and Concorde Hobby Shop (HK) respectively. NEW MIDLAND RED BOOK
Venture publications have just released book number 20 in their Prestige series of bus books. The book is entitled "The Prestige Series Midland Red" and contains 64 pages with many high quality photographs as follows: "The Birmingham & Midland Motor Omnibus Company was unusual among British bus operators. Although the Company's history went back to 1904 the production of its own vehicles - rather than buying them in from separate chassis and body builders - for almost a half-century from 1923 made it perhaps unique rather than simply "unusual". The homely "SOS" designation given to Midland Red's in-house-produced vehicles belied the advanced and efficient technical specification of a series of buses and coaches that served not only their manufacturer but also other companies within the British Electrical Traction organisation of which Midland Red was a member. The SOS was produced until 1940 and was succeeded by a new range called simply "BMMO". The last BMMO-built vehicle appeared in 1970 and by then the Nottingham-based transport photographer G H F Atkins had been recording the Midland Red fleet for some four decades. This book is based around the images thus produced by Geoffrey Atkins, many of them not previously published". The book can be purchased from MDS Book Sales www.mdsbooks.co.uk or phone 01457 861508 and is priced at £8.95 + p&p
